Iron Rails and History Trails

Learn about the history of the Underground Railroad in Lancaster County.  This tour begins in Christiana, site of the "Christiana Riot".  This historic event in 1851 marked the first time that the Fugitive Slave Act was challenged and was one of the issues that divided the nation, leading to the Civil War.  Learn about the fascinating history as you drive by historic sites.  Then travel through the scenic Amish farmlands to Strasburg.  Experience the wonder and magic of days gone by as you ride aboard the historic Strasburg Railroad on beautifully restored wooden coaches through the scenic Amish farmlands.  It's like traveling through a living page of nostalgic Americana!    An optional lunch, served aboard the train, is available.
